In September 2024 the majority of members of the Educators Taking Action Slate worked on a 1-day session with Nikki MG The Power Expert at the Thurgood Marshall Center in DC to create a platform that represents not only the values and goals we have for our union but a concrete plan for how to get there.
We wanted to make sure that this was a platform that represented all of us on the slate.

The meeting was a powerful experience. We grounded ourselves in our bodies and prepared for the work ahead. We were able to learn more about who each other were and what brings us to the work, seeing the beauty of our diverse experiences as well as our common vision for our schools. We set our overall mission and vision. This led to us breaking out into our areas of expertise and interest which we then shared with the whole team to put the platform together.
We made sure to make the most of our time. WTU Presidential Candidate Laura Fuchs worked for several months to prepare for this important meeting with Nikki Cole and her team. Power Experts United conducted in depth interviews with members and supporters of the slate to learn:
Our story of how we came to education and what keeps us in this work.
Our experiences with DCPS in particular.
How the WTU has helped us.
What we believe a powerful WTU looks like.
What do we struggle with as a union and as a membership.
How does being part of a union support us in the work.
Our top political and internal transformational WTU priorities.
Ultimately we created a platform and a plan we are proud of and ready to bring to the WTU.
