Why I'm Running:

I am running with the Educators Taking Action slate because I want work to build a union that is organized and responsive. I imagine a Washington Teachers' Union that keeps members informed through clear and transparent communication, addresses member issues promptly, and builds member power to fight for our communities. We can build an organization that fights for the common good, and an organization that others can count on to fight beside them. We can bring members out, and through this, we can stop simply putting out fires and become proactive in fights that strengthen public schools and all public services in the city.

Leadership Experience:

Executive Board, Vice President of High Schools October 2023 – Current - Initiated High School Committee meetings to hear from high school building leaders and organize/advocate around shared concerns - Worked to push the union to be more proactive and responsive to member needs as well as influential in policies that benefit our communities

LSAT Chair, Garnet-Patterson STAY High School July 2024 - Current - Collaborate with the school community to hold leaders accountable to school goals, monitor programming, and advocate for a budget that mets our school needs.

Created a letter writing campaigns as well as testimony writing/presenting campaigns for various causes, including those previously mentioned. Built relationships with local community leaders to advocate for solutions to school issues. Hosted events with community leaders to get students and staff involved in all issues. - Organized, advocated, and wrote/presented testimony on city-wide issues that impact students including social housing, school board reform, environmental causes, etc. -

Chair of School Chapter Advisory Committee - committee of union members to enforce contract and mediate/resolve issues between staff and administration - Member of Personnel Committee - committee to interview candidates and provide recommendations for hire to administration -

Member of Local School Advisory Committee – committee to advise principal on budget and overall school policy - Navigated COVID policies and safety concerns of staff during return to in-person schooling

American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Delegate June 2023 – Summer 2024 - Elected Delegate to AFT Convention, representing WTU members when guiding AFT policies/priorities - Among other resolutions, advocated for AFT resolution on organizing for strike readiness at all locals. Membership Organizing Committee Member June 2020 – September 2022 - Worked with WTU Organizing committee to advocate and plan direct actions for safe return to school, Memorandum of Agreement, and new Collective Bargaining Agreement
